Fesmire's Children of Rhatlan is a refreshing, entertaining fantasy tale. In a day when the standards of fantasy have either Children of Rhatlan book squeezed for all they're worth (Xanth, Shannara) or are way too large to be accessible to new readers (Xanth, Shannara, Wheel of Time) Fesmire brings a relatively unexplored concept (duals) and inserts them into a character-driven, quick-paced /5.
Children of Rhatlan is a comfortable novel, more of a character study than an epic battle piece (though confrontation between Paterun and the duals is inevitable)--but I believe this to be Fesmire's intent, to make duality into an everyday affliction that must be dealt with by our young heroes.

Garum and Vayin are dual, a strange fusion of two people, brother and sister, in one shared body. Duals are feared by most people and often hanged because they are considered to be evil. Children of Rhatlan eBook: Jonathan Fesmire: : Kindle Store.
